David J Adams Jr. is 61 years old. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and started working at just 14 years old before later joining the service. After being kicked out of his family home, David suddenly had nowhere to go. For the next 4–6 months, he experienced homelessness and the uncertainty that comes with not knowing where you will sleep or how you will make it through the next day.
Some of David’s biggest challenges were no longer being able to work and battling cancer at the same time. The stress of managing his health while trying to survive without stable housing was overwhelming.
When David connected with Willis Dady Homeless Services and the VA, things slowly began to change. Through our programming, he gained access to health insurance and SSDI, giving him a foundation to begin rebuilding his life. His case manager also helped him navigate communication with doctors and make it to important appointments, ensuring he never had to face those challenges alone. Today, David is cancer free and housed. After months of hardship and uncertainty, he now has the stability, support, and peace of mind he deserves
