Hey everyone, Chelsea here!

With the Tornado Watch that was just issued, I wanted to make sure all residents know that the storm shelter will be open if severe weather moves into our area.

Staff is on site and actively monitoring the situation. If conditions worsen, we will also be out assessing any damage as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you need immediate assistance, please flag down Cliff, Branden, or myself.

Please stay safe tonight and feel free to share this post so others in the community are aware.

A Freeze Warning has been issued for a large part of Iowa. Temperatures will drop to 26–32°F overnight into early Thursday morning.

📅 Timing: Midnight – 9 AM Thursday
🌡️ Lows: 26–32°F (colder in rural areas)
🌾 Impacts: Widespread frost and freeze conditions could kill or damage sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

What you can do:
✅ Bring potted plants indoors or cover them.
✅ Drain or insulate outdoor hoses and faucets.
✅ Protect any late-season crops.

As many of you may already know, a Tornado Watch has just been issued, and there is a chance of severe weather this evening.

Our storm shelter is open for anyone seeking refuge. For those who are new to the community: the shelter is located off Miller Ave Drive, near the garages. Drive down the driveway to the very back—you’ll see a standalone concrete building on your right. That’s the storm shelter.

Pets in the Storm Shelter

Pets are allowed in the shelter. To help keep the space safe and comfortable for everyone:

All cats must be crated
All dogs on handheld leashes must wear a muzzle

I understand that muzzling your dog may feel uncomfortable or heartbreaking. However, storms can cause extreme stress for pets, and being in a crowded, unfamiliar space increases the risk of fear-based reactions. The muzzle is a preventive step to avoid any incidents, especially with children or other residents nearby.

Please note:

➡️ I will not turn anyone away tonight for not having a muzzle, but moving forward, this will be a requirement during severe weather events.

Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation in helping make our shelter safe for everyone—both people and pets.

Once the storm passes, I’ll be on-site driving through the community to assess any damage and assist anyone in need.

In the meantime, please secure any outdoor items or move them into your shed to help prevent damage.

Let’s come together as a community tonight—please check in on your neighbors if you’re able.

If you need assistance after the storm, don’t hesitate to reach out. Cliff and I will be onsite:

Attention Residents,

I'm excited to share that, in partnership with the College Community School District, our community has been selected as a site for free breakfast and lunch for all school-aged children this summer!

Meal service begins Monday, June 9th and runs through Friday, August 22nd.
Meals will be served Monday through Friday in the community room at Kirkwood Estates, located at:
615 Miller Ave Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404

Meal times are as follows:

Breakfast: 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM
Lunch: 11:45 AM – 1:00 PM

Please note: There will be no meal service on Thursday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

We kindly encourage parents to remind their children to be respectful to the staff and to clean up after themselves in the meal areas.

It's Finally Here! 🎉
The big day we've been planning for weeks has arrived, and we can't wait to see everyone tonight!

🌊 Pool Party kicks off at 5 PM sharp and will go strong until the food runs out — and trust us, we’ve got plenty! Bring the whole family, meet your neighbors, and enjoy the fun. The water might be ice cold, but the food will be hot and delicious!

🎉 We're also thrilled to announce the grand opening of our playground today! We know you’ve been waiting, and we’re just as excited to share it with you.

🛍️ Vendors and charities will be on-site as well — be sure to stop by, say hello, and learn more about the amazing work they’re doing.

If you have any questions or need assistance, look for our team members in gray Harmony International staff shirts — logo on the back, "Staff" on the front. We're also getting support from our sister properties, so you’ll see plenty of friendly faces ready to help!

🗑️ A quick reminder to keep our space clean: Trash bins will be placed throughout the area, and we’ll be doing our best to keep things tidy as the evening goes on.

🚪Both gates to the pool will be open, so feel free to enter from either side.
