We were commissioned to design a new residence in a predominantly residential neighborhood with a rich architectural history. We integrated materials and constructive elements to pay homage to the historic character of the surrounding homes. We incorporated contemporary elements, such as the wide roof projections and extensive use of glazing surfaces. The central piece of this design is a sinuous staircase which connects the three lower levels. This layout allows the user plenty of flexibility to accommodate modern family living while keeping privacy and functionality as priorities. With the foyer and formal dining located on the front and the implementation of a side family entry into a discrete mudroom, this layout allows the kitchen, family dining, and living room to be seamlessly connected to the private yard

This one-of-a-kind home is located in a great cul-de-sac which overlaps between Denver’s most coveted neighborhoods Washington Park and Country Club. The layout of the main floor revolves around the central courtyard and visually connects all the public living spaces. The open layout concept features a chef’s kitchen which blends into the built-in bar and formal dining. The fireplace in the living room shields the private entry to the main floor’s suite which features private access to the yard, as well as a 5-piece spa and walk-in wardrobe. The second-floor layout features two more suites with access to a private balcony overlooking the front yard. The third floor offers additional entertainment space and a rooftop terrace looking at the Front Range mountains. This project was planned around the existing trees and conceptualized around providing seamless integration of outdoor and indoor uses

The small footprint of the existing house was completely expanded to create this wonderful modern farmhouse home. The centrally located entry and foyer open to a large private study and the formal dining which connects to the kitchen through the butler and walk-in pantry. The kitchen was carefully planned with tons of storage and a large multifunctional island featuring three-tone cabinetry. The living room opens to the open metal staircase which features large glazing surfaces oriented to the south to provide all three levels with plenty of sunlight. The layout on the second level offers three large suites with a conveniently located laundry room. The primary suite features an expansive space for the bed with access to the wardrobe through the private spa with views to the private yard and outdoor entertainment spaces

We were asked to expand and modernize the layout of this craftsman home in the Washington Park neighborhood. The existing side entry and foyer were kept as they offer a more discreet reception for guests. We expanded the usability on this level by integrating storage throughout the main floor, as well as a private study accessed from the foyer. The main living and kitchen spaces were opened up to offer modern flexibility as required by modern families. We integrated other modern amenities such as a mudroom with a secluded entry from the back patio and a walk-in pantry. The back wall was modified to offer a wide patio door which seamlessly connects the interior and exterior entertainment spaces. The second-floor addition was planned to maximize the usage and needs of a growing family with 2 bedrooms and a shared hall bathroom. This layout was planned to offer a vast amount of glazing on the south-facing walls to maximize the sunlight intake for the interior rooms throughout all levels. Similarly, the primary suite including the primary spa capitalizes through towering vaulted ceilings and extensive use of windows on the views of the mountain range and private yard.

Please enjoy this featured article on one of our recent design transformations, situated on a very unique cul de sac street in the Washington Park area. This street is in a part of the neighborhood which most WP residents don’t even realize is there. This design and its special location offer a modern urban family lifestyle with an emphasis on indoor/outdoor entertainment and no vehicular thru-traffic. Despite this extra measure of safety and privacy the home is just a 5 minute walk to the most desired park in the city of Denver. It was a pleasure to work in close collaboration with Work Shop Colorado to create this outstanding modern home in the newly developed Hilltop Estates neighborhood. Located on the outskirts of Golden, the home was carefully designed to capture key views despite the difficult geometry of the lot. Creating a home sympathetically with the unique opportunities of its natural and manmade surroundings is the key tenet of a more holistic design approach. Situated in the gently sloping terrain of the Colorado Plains, this design marries its form to its terrain with a stepping back of its upper facades. Through the careful placement and orientation of the home on the hillside and the use of covered decks and terraces, the home embraces an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. With an extensive use of fixed and moving glass, it maximizes the surrounding views and enjoys the resulting visual expanses through these outdoor gathering areas, providing almost seamless transitions in between.
