Three Hots and A Cot

Three Hots and A Cot Three Hots and A Cot Our primary mission is to assist homeless military veteran’s transition from life on the streets into a self-sustained lifestyle.

History and Synopsis of Three Hots and A Cot (Revised August 2016)

Three Hots and A Cot is a 501(c) (3) organization formed by veterans to help veterans. Changing one life at a time - Over one third of the homeless population is veterans. Our Initiative is not new - it is not that much different from what many organizations are doing across the country. Our Initiative is needed. There are homeles

s men and women on the streets of Alabama that served our nation. For various reasons these veterans of the Armed Services find themselves living on the streets, in abandoned houses, under bridges, in old warehouses, in city parks, and in the back of rental trucks. They are homeless. Three Hots and A Cot was founded by veterans - to serve our brothers and sisters who need our help. NOT a Homeless Shelter - but a gateway to Independence. Whatever the need of the veteran - we will help them meet it. Whatever the road block is - we will help them move it. Whatever the hurdle in the veteran's path - we will help them climb over it. Three Hots and A Cot's objective is to be a source of healing and prevention of a national tragedy. History - We obtained a six-bedroom home in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham in March of 2010. After extensive renovations of the Saint Benedict’s Veterans Center – we opened up for housing on June 15, 2010. Currently we have renovated the home to house eight veterans and one staff member. In October of 2010 we took ownership of a 15 bedroom – seven bath home in the Center Point area of Birmingham. We opened for housing at this location on December 18, 2010 and currently provide a home for 13 homeless veterans at this location plus housing for 4 formerly homeless veterans who now serve as part of the staff at Three Hots and A Cot. In September of 2011 we brought in our first female homeless veteran – and now offer co-ed housing as needed to serve all of our veterans. Our first shared/independent living facility opened in Woodlawn the end of August 2012 and is now home to three veterans in long term and more permanent housing. Our second shared living home – The Wayland House opened in January of 2013 and our first home for a family opened in March of 2013. Three Hots & A Cot currently operates nine houses – two transitional and seven independent living. Success Rate - Since we opened, we have had 934 veterans and family members in our program.
715– Have moved into independent housing, reconciled with families or moved on to other VA programs.
172– Were dropped from program – at their request or for failure to comply with our program requirements.
25– Residing at transitional homes.
22– Veterans and family members living in Independent homes operated by 3HAC
We have seen over an 82% success rate in our program thus far. Thank you for your consideration in supporting our initiative to help homeless veterans. JD Simpson

We would like to thank Heart and Armor for inviting us to share about our organization at the Braves vs Red a Sox game this past weekend. We had an amazing time and was thrilled to meet so many wonderful people. Mike Yastrzemski has such a huge heart for our veterans!

Side note: They have a list of names consisting of fallen soldiers that they read out before these events. They added Spc. Joseph A Lucas to the list for me. After reviewing their list, I realized half the guys on their list was from my unit’s 2005 rotation to Iraq. I was blessed to have Chris Sale, Braves picture, read off Cid’s name! It was an honor. Thank you Heart and Armor!

Everyone, we need your help!!!

We were blessed with this van a few weeks ago to serve our veterans in Oneonta. So we helped an outreach ministry that was in need with our old van. Now the A/C compressor has completely gone out in this one and it’s going to be over $900 to get it back in service 😭. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated!!!

As always thank you for your continued support to our veterans!!
