When buying and selling real estate, almost everyone refers to the real estate by the property address. Very few people reference the parcel number, and it's even rarer for a purchase agreement to list the full legal description (land without an address is the most common exceptions).
Usually, that works out fine between a willing buyer and a willing seller.
Remember:
- The legal description defines the property and is the foundation for legal identification.
- The parcel ID is a shorthand code tied to the legal description for tax and administrative purposes.
- The property address is a user-friendly label linked to the parcel ID and legal description; but it can change.
Be sure you know exactly what you are buying and selling.
