- Buyers may cover the gap out of pocket, as lenders will not finance the difference
- Buyers and sellers might renegotiate the purchase price to align with the appraised value
- If an agreement can’t be reached, the deal could fall through

Strategies to address an appraisal gap:

- Appraisal gap coverage: If not the entire difference, some buyers may agree to pay a specific amount above the appraised value
- Contingencies: Including an appraisal contingency in the contract allows buyers to back out or renegotiate if the appraisal is too low
