👋 Hey, friends! Do you enjoy eBooks and eAudiobooks from your local library? If so, we need your help TODAY (3/23)!
We're working on advancing legislation that would make eBook licensing more fair and equitable. Currently, libraries pay significantly more for an eBook license than a member of the public. For example, I could go buy a copy of Kristin Hannah's eBook "The Women" for $14.99 and it's mine forever... But the library is charged $60 and they're only allowed to lend it 26 times, or for 2 years (Depending on the licensing terms) and then they need to purchase another license.
Of that licensing fee, the author is only getting 14%, where the vendor gets 30% and the publisher is getting 56%. These licensing terms impose significant financial burdens and access limitations on public libraries.
