This house is incredibly significant:
- It is the foundation for the Howard Pyle School of Art. Pyle used this house, Turner's Mill, and Chadds Ford as a testing ground before he launched his school and continued to teach here during the summers!
-Deeply connected to the Battle of the Brandywine. Howard Pyle was best known for his American Revolutionary illustrations and brought his students to Chadds Ford to depict Revolutionary-era scenes.
-It was the place where N.C. Wyeth first fell in love with Chadds Ford (at Painter's Folly on July 4th, 1903!), ultimately deciding to move here...and the rest is history.
-Studio to Andrew Wyeth beginning in 1989 and lasting until his death. Major works completed here include Marriage, Painter's Folly, Widow's Walk, Cape May, and Renfield.

Let's save the building (and CF taxpayers) and find the appropriate preservation partner BEFORE a public auction!

Happy President's Day! Did you know that Howard Pyle and Theodore Roosevelt were close friends until Pyle's death in 1911? After Pyle's illustrations for Henry Cabot Lodge's serialized "The Story of the Revolution" in 1898, the two struck up a correspondence that became a close friendship. Pyle even contributed illustrations to Roosevelt's 1904 campaign. In addition to politics, the two shared a love of American history and antique collecting! Pyle likely worked on several illustrations for "The Story of the Revolution" while at Painter's Folly in 1898.
