Electrum is thrilled that Alchemy House played a small part in helping Tina get back on her feet. Good luck to both of you, and thank you to the crew at C-U at Home for your efforts to make our community better.

It's been a great week of seeing folks we've served successfully housed! "Tina" moved into our women's recovery house last October after coming out of a rehab program. Her struggles had left her separated from her young daughter, and she was determined to get her life back on track. She found work first at UPS and then at Walmart ("I love working there!" she says). Last spring she moved into our Alchemy House residence and then was successfully reunited with her daughter! They moved into their own apartment just in time for her daughter to begin 4th grade!

"Tina" expressed love and gratitude for the commitment our staff made to help her through the recovery process, find work, and restore her family. Your support makes stories (and smiles) like this possible. Thanks for helping us help "Tina" find her pathway to progress!

A year ago today, we launched Alchemy House. Funded by Electrum and administered by C-U at Home--Champaign-Urbana's leading homeless advocacy organization--Alchemy House provides a rent-free home for those working to transition from homelessness.
In its first year, Alchemy House has provided a place to stay for several friends without addresses, including some who have successfully transitioned from homelessness. Alchemy House has also given a young parent struggling with addiction a path to regain their child, with the help of C-U at Home's wrap-around sobriety tools, employment and financial counseling.
Wondering what you can do to help? Make a donation to C-U at Home, a grassroots, 501 c (3), faith-based homelessness ministry with facilities located in the Champaign-Urbana area. Better yet, become a "Hope Giver", with a small monthly donation.

Well placed and functional, original fixtures offer an element of uniqueness and style that simply can't be matched by their modern counterparts. But poorly placed and ill-treated original fixtures are never easy to live with. Knowing when, and how, to update takes years of practice. Fortunately, we're celebrating 30 years in 2021 ;)

As we celebrate 30 years of providing homes in Champaign-Urbana, Electrum is humbled and honored to present 𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞.

Funded by Electrum and administered by C-U at Home, Champaign-Urbana's leading homeless advocacy organization, Alchemy House will provide a stable, rent-free home for up to four people a year as they transition from homelessness.

This remodeled 800-square foot 1920s cottage features two private bedrooms, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, a recreation room and a large yard. But above all, it will provide the opportunity for our community’s friends without addresses to regain their footing for a better future.

C-U at Home is a grassroots, 501 c (3), faith-based homelessness ministry with facilities located in the Champaign-Urbana area.

The Electrum Group, Inc. is celebrating its 30th year in 2021 as one of Champaign-Urbana’s highest-rated landlords.

To coincide with the launch of Alchemy House, Electrum is also announcing the Alchemy Initiative, an effort to secure at least 10 new members for C-U at Home’s “Hope Givers” monthly support team. Becoming a Hope Giver is quick and easy but also an incredibly significant way to contribute to CU at Home’s efforts to restore dignity and hope for those most in need in Champaign-Urbana. Hey everyone!

Two things.

One, the changes in restrictions starting Monday are things we have already been doing here in the cafe. So nothing will really change on our end. Carryout only. Only a few people at a time. Etc. Thank you so much for all the support up until now. This is not ideal, but we still feel the love.

And two, if you or someone you know is an election judge/poll worker. We* would like to buy you a drink. So stop in for a free drink starting today and into next week. I don’t think badges or credentials are involved in that...so we are just gonna operate on the honor system;)

Preserving "antique" properties often means trying to save the details that gives a property its character, even if that means greater time and expense than the alternative of discarding and replacing with new. This gorgeous 1930s-vintage polychrome bronzed five-bulb fixture was barely functioning when we bought the property in early 2020. It was painstakingly disassembled, rewired, and fitted with "Edison" style LED bulbs before being reintroduced. Safer, brighter, and irreplaceable in its original location.
