Pending home sales in the Phoenix area posted one of the largest year-over-year gains of any metro in the country in December, according to the latest report from the National Association of REALTORS®.

The metro saw an 8.7% year-over-year increase in listings that went under contract during the month. That was the sixth-highest annual increase in the country.

Pending home sales increased even more in Louisville, Ky. (up 23.8%), San Antonio (up 13.6%) Virginia Beach, Va. (up 11%), Charlotte, N .C. (up 9.7%) and Boston (up 9.2%).

Nationwide, pending home sales decreased 9.3% year over year in December.
