Did you know that gardening can be a transformative activity for older adults? The benefits are truly remarkable! Not only does it significantly improve physical health, but it also enhances mental well-being and increases vitamin D levels. Engaging in gardening has even been shown to lower the risk of dementia. Plus, it's an enjoyable and effective form of exercise that fosters social connections with friends and neighbors.

As we witness a wonderful surge of enthusiastic elderly gardeners at Chapmanville Towers, we are excited to announce our plans to expand our garden beds for the 2025 growing season.

Currently, we have raised garden beds that measure 8x4 feet, built from 20 cored concrete cinder blocks, each holding about half a yard of nourishing soil. To cultivate this growing passion and create even more vibrant green spaces, we need your help!

We are reaching out to our community for donations of seeds and starter plants to nurture our gardens’ growth.

Here’s how you can make a difference:
- Donate seeds that can bloom into beautiful plants
- Contribute bags of potting soil to enrich our garden beds
- Provide starter plants to kickstart our gardening efforts
- Help us acquire 60 additional cored concrete cinder blocks
- Offer small garden implements and tools for our gardeners
- Share garden gloves to protect our hard-working hands

Every contribution, big or small, will have a significant impact on our gardening community. Together, let’s bring more life to our gardens and foster a growing, supportive community at Chapmanville Towers. Thank you for your generosity!

Let's make a 100th birthday even more special.
Harvey Miller was born on August 11, 1922 and he will be 100 years old in just a few short days. He is the oldest resident at Chapmanville Towers and in Chapmanville WV.. He still likes to fish, hang out with his friends and tell stories.

So, We are requesting that his mailbox be flooded with birthday cards. Cards from all over the country would even be better. Cards from kids and adults are welcome! We are looking for a competent Maintenance Supervisor to manage maintenance in our facility. An excellent maintenance supervisor must be reliable, have a great eye for detail and a positive get-it-done attitude. The goal is to ensure that facilities are in a clean, safe working condition at all times.

Primary Responsibilities:
Working under the general direction of the Community Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for all of the daily activities associated with maintaining the residential apartments and providing the highest level of service to our residents.

Resident Relations:
• Maintains a world class level of customer service.
• Inspects and ensures that all maintenance work performed is completed quickly and courteously, and the resident is satisfied.

Administrative
• Maintains supplies in stock and utilizes appropriate purchase order system, per approval guidelines.
• Works with Community Manager to control expenses.
• Completes all training timely per company’s requirement.

Maintenance
• Executes all preventative maintenance plan. reporting any concerns on equipment conditions to Regional Facility Manager.
• Ensures that vacant apartments are made rent-ready in accordance with set conditions and time frames.
• Performs repairs (Plumbing, Electric, Carpentry, HVAC, and others, as needed)
• Obtains competitive bids on major capital expenses.
• Working with outside vendors or contractors.

Safety:
• Promotes a safe working and living environment.
• Complies with federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the daily operations.
• Inspects grounds, buildings, and other property features daily to minimize liability and safety concerns.

Requirements
• Proven experience as maintenance supervisor or similar role
• Strong technical knowledge of all building systems (electrical, heating etc.)
• Knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations
• Understanding of budgeting and performance management
• Excellent planning and leadership abilities
• An eye for detail
• Customer Service Oriented
• Computer savvy
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must participate in On-call rotation
• High school diploma; Degree from a vocational school will be a plus
