Seriously, I think it can quit raining anytime. I used to have a dock for fishing. Now the fish are using the dock to swim across! Guess that is what happens when you get 8 inches of rain in less than a week. Mallory Estate is high and dry but pond is 40-year record high. Sure glad we mowed grass yesterday. The trees I used to mow around are now in the pond.

What an absolutely beautiful evening again at Mallory Estate. The pond looks better than it has for 40 years. 4" of rain yesterday and it is above being full. Water is nice and clear and fishing is great. Has to be the prettiest time of year with the green grass, trees all leafed out and the reflections of clouds and trees on the pond. What views we have from the deck on the shelter house. Great place to watch the fireworks.

Still have a couple huge catalpa trees on the Mallory Estate property. Mrs. Mallory loved these trees and planted hundreds of them around Chariton. They were a fast growing tree and Smith Mallory planted a huge grove of them North of the Castle. The plan was to use them for railroad ties but they could not begin to keep up with the demand.

What an absolutely perfect beautiful day at Mallory Estate . The grass is green, flowers in bloom and the fish are biting. Pond is record high and nice and clean. No moss and water is clear, perfect for fishing. Water is right up to bottom of dock. Call to book your stay with us soon. Calendar is filling up.

Wow, 147 years later and one of the Mallory Castle fireplaces is burning bright again. We had this original slate fireplace restored and installed in an addition we just built onto our home that is also located on part of the former Mallory Castle estate. Mallory Castle had 7 fireplaces. We recovered 3, there were 3 purchased by an individual in Osceola in 1959 and there is still one in a house in Russell. We are going to enjoy our time sitting beside this piece of priceless history.

Looking forward to another busy year at Mallory Estate. Just FYI for this year, if you are interested in booking for your visit or event, you must call direct to 641-203-1869 for your reservation. While we are continuing to operate as an Airbnb overnight or extended stay, we will no longer accept bookings on the AIRBNB booking site. It is getting too hard to screen unwanted guests and a few bad apples have ruined that for everyone. I will have to know who you are and your intentions for booking with us in detail going forward. This will insure ALL guests have a beautiful, safe and clean place to stay for many years to come. We appreciate your business and look forward to hosting many happy families this year.

Found some great old framed Chariton photos on FB for sale a while back. Look great in the Mallory Shelter house. The walls in this part are built with original 1870's reclaimed barn wood. Also just used boards salvaged from the original 1870 Mallory barn for spindles on our deck out back of the shelter. It is great getting to build history into an already historical property. Found the old phone in the former Jerry Wells cabin that was located next to the former Lake Vista Motel where Country Cabins now stands. Love all the history.
