Last year alone, wire fraud in real estate transactions accounted for over $400 million in losses. Scammers are hacking emails, following transactions from the very first contact, and waiting until the last minute to trick buyers into wiring their down payments to a fake address. Once that money is gone, there is literally nothing that can be done.

Please, when you are ready to wire your earnest money, always call the closing attorney directly to verify the instructions over the phone. Never rely just on an email.
