1st home when 21 yrs old. Other residences from age 23 & 25. I moved to Charleston in 1991 with a packed car only from USC. I had no friends, no furniture, no household items, etc. Awaiting me was my 1st adult job at Burns Elementary School. I couldn’t wait to be a first grade teacher. Always set goals, be brave, believe in yourself, work hard, persevere, never give up, take chances, etc. If I can do it, you can do it.

Happy Father’s Day Dad! Thanks for bringing me into the world. Thanks for doing “all the things” in the past, present, and future. Thanks for paying for my master’s degree at The Citadel when I was just 25 years old. Who knows if I really would’ve completed the program without your financial assistance? You’re one of the main reasons that I am a counselor today. I’m so proud of the work that you continue to do at age 82, as an attorney. Thank you for paying for my wedding in Charleston. Thank you for always being here for us. You’re literally just a phone call away. Thanks for showing me to treat all people with respect and kindness. I love you with my entire heart, soul, and being. Highlight of my week…seeing two of my former JBE students, who just happen to be Smith’s childhood best friends. They still have the best all time manners.
