We are in the process of building a new Brick and Sole website—a place where people can contact us, sign up for volunteer days, join the newsletter, read occasional updates, order T-shirts, and keep up with what is happening at the building.

The volunteer and newsletter signups are already live, although the rest of the website is still under development. Our next Volunteer Day is October 10, so if you would like to help, you can sign up now. And if you don’t watch much YouTube or follow the channel regularly but still want to keep up with the project, you can sign up for updates there as well. We are also looking for a semi dump bed that we could use for a few days. Ideally, a local farmer might have one we could borrow for one big push to clear out the building once and for all. That would be absolutely amazing. Short of that, if anyone knows where we could rent one, we would appreciate the lead.
We already have a trucking company with the trucks and properly licensed drivers to make the runs to the Effingham landfill—we just need the trailer. If you have one or know where we might find one, please get in touch. the date for that would not be at this volunteer day but rather at some point in the future according to circumstance. Can you imagine what we could accomplish with access to something like this for even a couple of days?

Even when I am away from the building I am constantly thinking about how to move the project forward, and I am super busy even though I am far away. I recently attended a maker fair in Germany. Had to drive 6 hours to get there. But it really opened my eyes. My vision for the builiding is constantly evolving. And I wanted to add some footage from what turned out to be an amazing little trip.

Up until now I never knew that Charleston had such a prolific crime problem. Since we have had the building we've had over 20 break ins, countless vandalism events, some we caught. Some we didn't. This time it was right out in the open on the front of the building. They stole copper gutter that was on the building for over 100 years. It makes a person sick to think about. What did it weigh like 2 to 3 pounds? so less than 10 bucks in copper? They left a stick with a microphone cable planted in its place and a ceramic bear head, and a pile of pinecones for reasons I dont even want to try to imagine. This problem is relentless, and unsolvable in my opinion. I am going to have to divert some of our extremely limited renovation money to additional cameras. what can be done? it is insane that we have to deal with this. It is never ending. It is incredibly disheartening. Come on Charleston.

Some of the most unique industrial lighting that we found in the building, will be perfect for the front end. They will be beautiful and super unique and so fitting for the space.

Another wall falls, and the building is returning to her former self. Nothing like exposing original brick walls! Love days like this when everything comes together all at once and a huge impact on the space happens in a single day.
