40.

never thought I’d see the day. A lot of us wake up on these milestone, birthdays and go yeah I don’t feel 40… that’s a lie. I just don’t think I’m 40. My body reminds me every morning or anytime I try something athletic, there’s a partial tear

so, as an elder, I reserve the right to bend your ear for a minute

At 40you start recognizing that as much as you’ve still got to look forward to so much of where you are is a reflection of where you came from. A lot of of the people who got me here aren’t around anymore. Family members, pets, hell even a couple friends are just photos on my wall and scenes my mind drifts too during the infrequent free moment. Most of the people on this app or even around Charleston have really only known me the last 15ish yrs — which means you’ve known the version of me all those others built.

If 40 years has stopped me one thing, it’s this:

1) never get too low, or too high
2) the best things in life happened around food, Music and family
3) following through on what you say puts you ahead of 95% of people
4) it’s OK to take baby steps
5) two things can be true at the same time
6) getting great at one thing takes you to the same place as trying to master many
7) stopping to smell the roses what the best parts of life are all about
8) stubbornness is a strength when it becomes tenacity
9) we all become someone’s memory, so the best thing we can do while we’re here is give the people around us plenty of them.

So here’s to the ones who became mine. And to all of you, thank you for letting me be part of yours 🍻
