🏡 BIG Housing News: Congress Passes Major Housing Affordability Bill
Congress has passed what many are calling the most significant federal housing legislation in nearly 20 years, and it is now headed to the President for signature.
So… what does this mean for everyday people?
The goal of this bill is simple:
➡️ Build more homes
➡️ Improve affordability
➡️ Expand paths to homeownership
➡️ Create more financing options for buyers
Why now? Because the U.S. is currently facing a housing shortage estimated at nearly 4.7 million homes. When there aren’t enough homes available, prices rise and buyers—especially first-time buyers—feel the pressure.
Some highlights include:
🏠Encouraging communities to remove barriers to building homes
🏠Expanding funding for affordable housing construction
🏠Supporting repairs and preservation of older housing
🏠Creating programs for smaller mortgage amounts (helpful in lower price points)
🏠Supporting manufactured and modular housing options
🏠Expanding housing opportunities for veterans
One of the biggest takeaways: leaders from both parties agreed housing affordability needs attention.
