Not every closing feels the same. This one closed $10,000 over list!!!! But there is so much more to this story.

Jessica and Hartmut are downsizing, and I got to help them do it. But selling the home where you raised your family is never simple. It’s the right move and a hard goodbye, both at once.

Jessica and I taught at the same school. I had their son Harrison in my art class from 5th grade all the way through 8th, and in my homeroom that final year. He was one of the sweetest kids. Getting to know his parents through this closing, it all makes sense. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Harrison’s at UNC Chapel Hill now, somewhere around six feet tall.

Scroll to the last slide. That’s me, standing next to their family’s growth chart, in the exact same spot Harrison and I lined up on the day I first taught him in 5th grade.

Some friendships really do come full circle. ❤️

Sixteen years ago, Renda met Vanessa while vacationing in Miami Beach. At the time, none of us could have imagined that one day we’d be helping them make the move from Florida to North Carolina.

But the story got even better.

As Vanessa and Mathew began building their new life here, Matthew’s mom decided Concord looked pretty good too.

And just like that, we closed on two homes for one family in the same week.

From a chance friendship on a Florida vacation all those years ago to helping this family plant roots here in North Carolina... this one feels pretty special.

Congratulations Vanessa, Mathew and Mom! Welcome home.

A little bit of a full-circle moment for our family. ❤️

This weekend, Chris and I moved Autumn into the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she’ll spend her junior and senior years of high school studying visual arts.

And this one hits a little differently for me.

Many years ago, I left home as a high school student to attend this very same school. I graduated from UNCSA, and to this day, I consider it one of the best and most formative experiences I ever had as an artist.

Now our daughter gets to have an experience all her own.

We are unbelievably proud of Autumn for earning the opportunity to be here and, even more, for being brave enough in high school to take it. I know how much she is going to learn, how hard she’s going to work, and how much she’s going to grow over these next two years.

Knowing all of that doesn’t necessarily make leaving your daughter in a dorm room any easier.

Walking through the art studios with her was probably the moment it really hit me. So much has changed on campus since I was a student here, but the art studios and our dorm and that feeling of being surrounded by young artists who are completely immersed in what they love felt strangely familiar.

Yesterday I was the student.

Today I’m the mom dropping off my daughter.

What an incredible full-circle moment.

A little bit of a full-circle moment for our family. ❤️

This weekend, Chris and I moved Autumn into the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she’ll spend her junior and senior years of high school studying visual arts.
