Today, we talked about something many homeowners don’t even realize could be on their property: underground oil tanks

Many homes built pre-1975 may still have them buried underground

Why this matters:

⚠️ If they’re discovered during a sale, sellers may have to remove the tank + treat the soil

⚠️ Old tanks can eventually leak into the soil and groundwater, which is unhealthy

⚠️ This could cost THOUSANDS of dollars to remediate (remove tank + treat soil) AND delay (or derail) closing

✅ SELLERS
If you own a home built pre-1975 and are thinking about selling, invest in this inspection for buried oil tanks before listing your home. Address it BEFORE listing to avoid bigger costs later

✅ BUYERS
If you’re buying an older home, ask about underground tanks or pay for this inspection. Discovery of one may impact your loan and/or your ability to get homeowners insurance

Knowing this early can save everyone time, money, and a WHOLE lot of stress😮‍💨
