Summer is finally here! As you soak up some fun this pool season, here are a few refreshing reminders to help all our residents enjoy a fun and safe summer by the pool:

- Feel free to float any time from 10AM-10PM, and don’t forget to bring your pool pass with you! If you don’t have a pool pass, just stop by the office to pick yours up!

- Before you take a dip, please review the rules posted in the pool area and be sure to follow them anytime you’re enjoying the pool.

- Invite friends over to enjoy some pool time with you (up to two guests allowed per apartment home) – just make sure you’re there to hang out with them throughout their poolside stay.

- Bare feet and glass don’t mix well, so please only use plastic, paper, or aluminum containers in the pool area.

- Be sure to wear appropriate pool attire, and anyone wearing diapers needs to wear a swim diaper in the pool.

- Lather up with tanning lotion and sunscreen, but please lay a towel down to protect our pool furniture.

- You are welcome to shift sundeck furniture to more sunny or shady spots, but please remember to return them to their original locations once you’re done hanging out.

- Pool games are fun, but try not to be too noisy, so those taking a poolside snooze can also enjoy their day.

Please let us know right away if you notice any misbehaving or safety hazards around the pool.

This is an opportunity for us to reflect not only on the theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” but also on how Cortland is one of countless organizations whose members are connected to the history this month celebrates.

This month, we’re highlighting six of our associates who shared their relation to a Black history maker — from prolific and award‑winning musicians Billy Strayhorn and Oscar Sheppard, to historic baseball player Dennis “Bose” Biddler, to Dr. Edwin A. Thompson, founder of Atlanta Metropolitan State College, and to William Still, an abolitionist credited as the father and primary architect of the Underground Railroad.

There's nothing better than starting off the year with a sense of calm and clarity. This inspired our winter art installation at our Community Support Center in Atlanta. It serves as a visual deep-breath, allowing viewers to take some time and observe the natural beauty of art and slow down.

We currently have the work of artist Sensei Elliston Roshi on display with the help of KAI LIN ART. Elliston, who is currently an Abbot of the Atlanta Soto Zen Center, explores the Taoist and Zen ideals of harmony in action. By surrendering to the medium, he allows "inevitable accidents" to reveal the beauty of the natural laws all around us.

The usage of sumi ink, which is traditional in the use of Zen artistry, works together with the water-based pigments and how it presents itself on different materials like paper, plastic, and painted board.

Kai Lin's art serves as a reminder to take a moment, and make time for peace away from rush of the world.
