Today, on Veterans Day, we pause in profound gratitude to honor the brave women and men who have served our nation with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

From the sandhills to the coastline, the Tar Heel State has deep roots in military service. With nearly 678,000 veterans residing across North Carolina, and tens of thousands of active-duty personnel contributing to our communities and economy, the spirit of service is woven into the very fabric of our state.

We remember the first African American U.S. Marines who trained at Camp Montford Point in Jacksonville, NC, between 1941–1949—a pivotal moment of breaking barriers and demonstrating honor in service.

We honor not only those who fought overseas, but also those who trained, stood guard, and supported our freedoms at home—including the women veterans whose ranks continue to grow, especially here in North Carolina.
