🏡 Multi-generational living is making a major comeback.
According to the National Association of REALTORS®, 17% of recent homebuyers purchased a multigenerational home in 2024—the highest level recorded in more than a decade.
Why the shift?
Many families are choosing to live together to help care for aging parents, support adult children, reduce housing costs, and create more flexibility for everyday life.
Here in the Charlotte region, it's one reason we're seeing increased interest in homes with guest suites, finished basements, dual primary suites, bonus rooms, and flexible living spaces. Many newer communities throughout the Carolinas are being designed with these evolving household needs in mind.
What once felt uncommon is quickly becoming one of the most important housing trends shaping today's market.
The question isn't just how many bedrooms a home has anymore.
It's how many generations it can comfortably support.
