One of Western North Carolina’s most stunning freshwater sand beaches, Lake Lure Beach is now reopen for the summer of 2026 after the beach, lake and community have made a recovery from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene in late 2024! Set beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains, this sandy lakefront spot gives you a full summer day of swimming, sunning, sand castles, picnics, and clear mountain views all around you! The beach is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May 23 through August 11, 2026, with lifeguards on duty. Visitors can bring coolers...but glass, alcohol, grills, pets, oversized floats, and snorkels are not allowed. The new floating Adventure Course sits just offshore, with separate 50-minute sessions starting at 11 a.m., giving kids and adults a place to climb, slide, and play on inflatables. An onsite beach house sells towels, chairs, sunscreen, floats, toys, and other beach-day basics. This little beach in Lake Lure, NC is one of the most scenic and fun places to spend a day under the summer sun here in Western North Carolina!

One of North Carolina’s most legendary drive-in restaurants, the South 21 Drive-In has been part of Charlotte’s food scene since 1955, when Greek immigrant brothers Sam, George, and Nick Copsis opened their first small spot on South Boulevard with little more than a grill, fryers, and a drink counter. The Independence Boulevard location followed in 1959, helping turn South 21 into a true Queen City classic. The menu still feels like a step back in time, led by the famous Super Boy, a double burger stacked with chili, slaw, lettuce, and tomato. The crisp onion rings, fried chicken, thick shakes, and hand-cut fries are just as much a part of the experience. Guests can still eat curbside in their cars or head inside, where vintage décor and decades of local memories give the place its old Charlotte feel. Greasy, nostalgic, family-run, and proudly unchanged, South 21 is the kind of roadside landmark that keeps generations coming back.
