Garbage disposals are helpful. They are not magical. 🪄🚫

This week’s Maintenance Monday is Garbage Disposal 101, aka how to keep your kitchen sink from becoming the villain of off-Grounds living.

A few first-time renter basics:

✔ Run cold water before, during, and after using the disposal.
✔ Feed small amounts slowly. Think “tiny food scraps,” not “second trash can.”
✔ Small soft food bits are usually fine.
✔ Tiny citrus peels once in a while? Fine. A whole fruit salad? Please don’t.
✔ If it stops working, turn it off, press the reset button underneath, run cold water, and try again.
✔ If it still will not run, hums but will not spin, leaks, smells like burning, or the sink backs up, stop and ask for help.

Please skip grease, oil, pasta, rice, bread, coffee grounds, eggshells, bones, pits, shells, celery, corn husks, and anything that should clearly be in the trash.

And under absolutely no circumstances should you put your hand in the garbage disposal. Silverware is replaceable. Fingers are not.

Wall Hangings 101: because your rental walls deserve better than a peel-and-stick jump scare. 🖼️

This week’s **Maintenance Monday** is all about decorating without making the paint pack its bags.

CBS lease reminder:

✔ Use small finishing nails or small tacks for wall hangings.
✔ Check your move-in packet for the sample-size nail. That little guy is there for a reason.
✔ Keep it reasonable. A few small nails? Fine. A wall that looks like it joined a dart league? Maybe not.

Please do **not** use tape, adhesives, glue, Command strips, adhesive hooks, large nails, toggle bolts, wallpaper, or paint.

We know the “damage-free” packaging looks persuasive. Unfortunately, rental walls have seen the ending of that movie, and it usually involves torn paint, patching, and repair charges.

When in doubt, ask CBS before hanging anything. Tiny question now, much calmer move-out later.
