Their idea was to provide moving services in and around the Charlottesville area, enabling college students to earn money for their tuition. Moving doesn’t have to be chaotic.

🗓️ Start packing earlier than you think: aim for at least 2-3 weeks out, one room at a time
✏️ Label your boxes and furniture by room: this makes unloading and unpacking go much faster
📋 Keep an inventory list: a simple note on your phone of what’s in each box goes a long way
🔌 Pack electronics and toiletries last and unpack them first; getting your space set up early makes everything feel more settled!

“Student Services was the 'best job I ever had.' It was active, and it was often difficult (and hot!) but the relative autonomy the crews had to “figure it out” on the job? That was absolutely crucial; our boss Paul had complete trust in us and especially in the crew leaders who would show us the ropes. That trust is confidence-building and I absolutely had Paul as a great leadership example when I first joined the Navy. I don’t remember how many miles I drove north, east, west and south anymore but I saw more of the country east of the Mississippi during those summers than I’d ever seen in my cloistered New England life!"
