When you choose me as your agent, you get a knowledgeable local expert, a skilled tracker, and a trusted professional guide, an experienced ally, and the backing of the entire Homes Farms and Land team at Charlotteville Realty. Dwight’s roots run deep in the western Catskills - his family has farmed, hunted, built their homes and raised their families on the mountaintops, hillsides, and river bott
oms of Delaware, Otsego, and Chenango counties for more than 8 generations. Born and raised in Unadilla, Dwight earned his BA and MS Ed at SUNY-Oneonta, teaching Spanish, French, and NY State History just across the river from his childhood home for nearly a decade. On sabbatical in 2001, Dwight accepted a 2-year post as Head of Foreign Languages at the American International School of Johannesburg, answering a call to adventure that would ultimately become a 16-year-long odyssey as a High School Principal and ultimately Headmaster at top international schools across Africa, Latin America, and the South Pacific. Having become a proud grandfather, Dwight decided it was time to “downshift” and come back home to be close to his family in 2017. He dedicated himself to brewing great coffee for his friends and neighbors, raising pastured poultry, and trying his hand at farm-to-table cooking with a global flair, opening The Meeting Place cafe on Main Street, Unadilla - right back home where he started.
“I’ve lived and worked in some pretty remarkable places across the globe - from high atop the Andes mountains to the banks of the lower Zambezi - but no place on earth can compare with the spectacular natural beauty, the strong sense of community, and the refreshing live-and-let-live neighborliness of the western Catskills.”
In 2020, Dwight laid down his barista tools and passed his baking pans off to a budding young entrepreneur, and once again answering the call to adventure, dusted off his license and stepped back into upstate Real Estate full time. An experienced and enthusiastic Buyers’ Specialist, Dwight now happily joins folks on new adventures, accompanying them in their quest to find their dream home, dream shop, dream farm, or dream ‘virtual office’, fulfilling his personal mission to “do my part to revitalize Main St, relocalize our food system, rebuild our local wealth, and help really cool people to move in next door”. Equipped with his Master’s in Local History, a Permaculture Design Certificate, an African Field Guide qualification, and his NY Real Estate Salesperson license, Dwight revels in researching and telling the unique story of each home and property he markets for his friends and neighbors across the Central Leatherstocking region of New York and throughout the beautiful western Catskills. Dwight is a member of the National Association of Realtors™, active in several area civic organizations and Chambers of Commerce, a founding member of The Village Bountiful community-owned food co-op, the catalyst for a local backyard chicken ordinance, and a member of the Board of Trustees in the Village of Unadilla, NY. An enthusiastic booster of local entrepreneurship and community-supported agriculture, as well as an experienced Main St. merchant, his coffee shop, The Meeting Place, was named “Business of the Year” in 2019, and earned the distinction of “Best Cup of Coffee” in Central NY. His renowned secret scone recipe and his pour over skills are now exclusively reserved for the Open Houses that he hosts for his most esteemed clients.
