As a Realtor, I love this time of year. Homeowners are either looking forward to enjoying spring and summer in their Cape Cod homes or thinking of selling and moving into another dream home on Cape or off Cape. Either way, it’s the time of year when a Realtors help is needed, and that’s where we come in. Pardon the pun, but spring is one time that we really spring into action.

CCIAOR and the Home Builders of Cape Cod hosted a Legislators Breakfast last week, and it was a sell out. Thank you to all who attended and especially our legislators who took the time to sit with us and answer questions. A great exchange of information. Realtors oppose placing taxes on vacation rentals. Homeowners already pay property taxes and income tax. Homeowners are not tax collectors and should this go into effect, our fear is that individual homeowners will go "under ground" like Air B&B. This will mean that rental agents won't be able to check for health and safety issues on homes typically rented with a Realtor. Hoping for a resolution to this issue. Perhaps applying this rule to buildings with 4 units or more could be the solution?? Lots to think about.

Had the opportunity to speak to the MA Senate at Mass Maritime Academy this week, during their Listening Tour. Say no to taxing homeowners rentals. We don't want to make homeowners tax collectors, and we don't want rentals to possible go underground rather than be taxed on that rental income. Homeowners are paying property tax, and tax on income derived from renting their homes. We do not need a 3rd tax.
