๐ I was at my daughterโs dance class the other day, casually listening (okay, eavesdropping ๐) on a conversation between two moms.
One of the women mentioned she was moving and kept talking about how relieved she was that they didnโt have to use a Realtor. Her friend responded, โOh, thatโs so great! It was such a nightmare when we used ours!โ
I wish I could say this was the first time Iโve heard a conversation like this, but I hear some version of it around our community all the time.
The truth is, a lot of people simply ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป'๐ ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐.
Iโve sat down with so many people who are ready to buy or sell a home, but theyโre hesitant to work with an agent because of a negative past experience. And honestly, I understand why their guard is up.
So how do you build trust with someone who is already skeptical of what you do?
๐ I think it starts with ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป.
Good communication builds trust. When weโre open and honest with peopleโwithout constantly trying to sell them somethingโthey tend to let their guard down, too. Genuine conversations happen. People start asking questions. They tell you what theyโre actually worried about. And thatโs when you can really help them.
๐ But trust also comes from ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป.
Itโs true that so much of real estate is learned through practice. But if you donโt understand the contract sitting in front of you, how can you confidently explain it to your client? How can you help them understand what theyโre agreeing to, or why it matters?
๐ญ And then thereโs ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ด๐ฒ.
Youโve put in the hours. Youโve worked through inspections, negotiations, appraisals, repairs, financing issues, unexpected problems and plenty of stressful moments. That experience matters.
Your job isnโt just to open doors or write contracts. Itโs to be the go-to guide your clients can rely on through a process that can feel confusing and overwhelming.
So be genuine. Be open. Know your stuff. And connect with people over real-life things...not just real estate.
Because before someone becomes a client, they have to feel like they can ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐. And that trust is what turns a lead into a client ๐
