When most people think of Chattanooga’s history, they typically think about our rich railroad history. While it’s a big part of what makes Chattanooga “Chattanooga”, our history is woven throughout our vibrant city and the surrounding areas.

For instance, The Passage may be known as a place to cool off during summer but there is more to this space. The Passage marks the beginning of the Trail of Tears, which also refers to the journey that forced the removal of the Cherokee tribes from Ross's Landing in Chattanooga to Oklahoma.

Fall is a beautiful season, and the perfect time to get outside and enjoy all that Chattanooga has to offer. If you're looking for some fun outdoor activities to do this fall, here are my top 3 picks:

Hiking - With the beautiful fall foliage and cooler temperatures, hiking is a must-do in Chattanooga during the fall season. There are plenty of great trails to choose from, including the popular Lookout Mountain trails, Signal Point, and the Cumberland Trail.

Biking - If you prefer to explore the outdoors on two wheels, Chattanooga has plenty of great biking trails that are perfect for fall. The Riverwalk is a popular option, as is the Guild Trail and the Tennessee Riverpark.

Rock Climbing - For those seeking a bit more adventure, rock climbing is a great way to experience the beauty of Chattanooga's outdoors. There are plenty of great climbing spots to choose from, including Sunset Rock, Stone Fort, and Foster Falls.

No matter which activity you choose, you're sure to have a great time exploring Chattanooga's beautiful outdoors this fall!

2. Fall Creek Falls, Cherohala Skyway, Tail of the Dragon: Moderate color now, High color next week, Peaking around next weekend & shortly after
3. Chattanooga metro mountains, Chilhowee, Blue Ridge, Ellijay: 1-2 weeks for high to peak color
4. Valley spots: 2 weeks, maybe a little more
