This would open up a wonderful opportunity for so many families!
Florida lawmakers are moving forward with a housing bill that would allow more “granny flats” across the state. The Florida Senate has advanced legislation aimed at expanding accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, as part of a broader effort to address Florida’s ongoing housing shortage.
The bill would allow homeowners to build small, separate living units on their property, including garage apartments or backyard cottages, in single-family residential areas. Supporters say ADUs could increase housing supply without changing neighborhood zoning classifications.
Under the proposal, local governments would be limited in their ability to block these units if they meet size, safety, and building requirements. The bill is still moving through the legislative process and would need final approval before becoming law.
