You are more than one thing.

This is my beautiful friend ; over the years, she has impacted my and so many others’ lives in a profound way.

I could try to organize and produce a list of her accolades and accomplishments, but If I did that, I would quickly hit my word limit here.

Instead, I just want to quickly say that it is entirely possible for you to be a mother, a teacher, a leader, a student of the game, a wife, a friend, and a bonafide world changer, all while BUILDING a community that leans on you for truth and resistance.

This is only a tiny piece of who Joy Reid is and what she represents to so many of us.

Her show The Reid Out has been a home for me these past few years. I record it every night. I will sometimes text Joy and simply say, “Killer show tonight,” or “Damn, you set our TV on fire!” or, “KEEP SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER FRIEND✊🏿” or “Why does your eye makeup look so dope tonight, friend!”. Ha! These are actual texts I’ve sent her over the years, and I’m tearing up from thinking about them.

The Reid Out is ending, but my friend, who is wildly so many more than just one thing, is just beginning.

Thank you, Joy. Thank you for being our home and for your leadership. I just want to say thank you, friend.

Now, for the rest of you, take this as your calling card, your permission, if you will…
