🏖️They play a vital role in preserving our white sandy beaches. They have a sprawling root system that sometimes reach 40 feet deep! These roots anchor shifting sands and hold our beautiful dunes in place by resisting erosion from wind and waves.
💨They can adapt to harsh weather conditions and thrive where many plants cannot.
🐇Their seeds feed a variety of Florida wildlife, including rabbits, sparrows, red-winged blackbirds, and marsh rabbits.
👮 Due to their conservation importance, Florida statutes prohibit removing or damaging sea oats without a permit!
Walton and Okaloosa counties add local ordinances that reinforce state protections. Look, but don't touch!😁
