🍂🔧 FALL HOME MAINTENANCE: PROTECT THE HOUSE. PROTECT THE GARAGE. PROTECT YOUR WALLET. 🏡💰
Fall maintenance isn’t just about raking leaves and putting a pumpkin on the porch. 🎃
Your home is likely one of your biggest investments—and a few hours with a ladder, toolbox, and maybe a cold beverage can help prevent some seriously expensive repairs later. 🍺😎
Before winter shows up, tackle a few of these:
🏠 Clean the gutters & check downspouts
Clogged gutters can mean overflowing water, damaged fascia, foundation problems, and ice issues. Get those leaves out before they become frozen gutter soup.
🔨 Inspect the roof, flashing & exterior
Look for missing shingles, loose flashing, damaged siding, cracks, and anything else that makes you say, “Eh… that’ll probably make it until spring.” Famous last words. 😂
🚰 Disconnect hoses & winterize outdoor faucets
A $10 problem in September can become a busted pipe and a much bigger bill in January.
🔥 Service the furnace & change the filter
Your heating system is about to clock in for overtime. Give it a fighting chance.
🪵 Check the deck, steps & railings
Tighten loose boards, screws, and railings and look for rot. Small repairs now can help prevent bigger structural problems later.
🚪 Weatherproof doors & windows
Check caulk and weatherstripping. If you can feel cold air coming through, your heating bill can probably feel it too.
🧰 DON’T FORGET THE GARAGE!
🔧 Lubricate the garage door tracks, rollers, hinges & springs
🚪 Check the garage door seal and weatherstripping
🧹 Clean out leaves, dirt and debris before winter
🐭 Seal gaps where mice and other freeloaders can move in
⛽ Prep the mower and other seasonal equipment for storage
❄️ Pull the snow blower forward and make sure it actually starts before the first snowstorm
🔋 Check batteries in tools and equipment
🧯 Check your fire extinguisher and smoke/CO detectors
💧 Look around the garage walls, ceiling and floor for signs of water intrusion
And while you're out there… organize the tools.
Or at least move them from one pile to three more organized-looking piles. That counts. 😂🔨
