Chesapeake is growing again. 👀🌳

A 23.5-acre site off S. Battlefield Boulevard has sold for $4.15 million, making way for Stillwater, a new development by Virginia Builders.

Plans include 105 new homes with a mix of single-family homes, cottages and brownstone-style row homes plus a four-acre food truck destination known as Stillwater Works. 🏡🌮

It’s another major project bringing new housing and amenities to Southern Chesapeake.

Lupe Fiasco hopped on IG to break down why he thinks ownership is overrated. He said some people aren't built to own things and that's fine, because you're responsible for every repair and headache. He also made a point that you can't even fully own a house or car since you still gotta pay property taxes and registration fees forever. He says it's all just a game to make people feel inferior for renting.

Plans for the Newport News Seafood Market are giving us a first look at what could become one of the city’s newest places to eat, gather, shop local, and enjoy the waterfront. This image was produced courtesy of Work Program Architects.

Located at the Seafood Industrial Park, the market is planned to include:
🦐 Fresh local seafood + a large seafood counter
🍽️ Raw bar + prepared food vendors
🍹 A beverage bar
🛍️ Vendor stalls supporting local entrepreneurs
🌿 Outdoor plazas + gathering spaces
🎶 Space for live performances, events & pop-up markets
🌊 A boardwalk connection to the working waterfront
⛵ Public boat access planned alongside waterfront improvements

And the design itself pays homage to Newport News’ maritime and industrial history while creating a new community gathering place for the East End.

The vision goes beyond a seafood market. It’s designed to become a place where locals and visitors can eat, gather and experience the Newport News waterfront. ⚓️

The Museum of Black Women Innovators in Portsmouth seeks to highlight the overlooked contributions of 250 Black women whose inventions and ideas transformed history.

The project received a $1 million allocation from Virginia lawmakers in the newly finalized state budget, a surprise funding boost that will allow local students to visit the exhibits for free.

A board of Black women is currently selecting the historical and living figures across 14 categories, and their stories will be brought to life inside the museum through commissioned artwork.
