As a reminder, please slow down in school zones, stop for school buses, and watch for children walking to and from school. Our officers will be out helping make sure everyone gets where they’re going safely.

School starts Monday around here. Please be extra careful in school zones with all the kiddos. This is a good reminder of how the HAWK systems work.

Back-to-School Reminder: Watch for HAWK Signals!🚦

As students return to class on Monday (8/24), we're reminding drivers to pay extra attention in school zones and near crosswalks. Many of these areas have been equipped with High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signals.

HAWKs are designed to help with crossing busy streets. Unlike traditional crosswalks, they are only activated when a pedestrian pushes a button.

Here is what you need to know:
🟡Flashing/solid yellow = A pedestrian has requested to cross. Slow down and get ready to stop.
🔴Solid red = Stop completely. Wait for pedestrians to cross.
🔴🔴Flashing red = Stop. Check that the crosswalk is clear and proceed only when it’s safe (treat this like a stop sign).

- Yellowstone Road (near Davis Elementary School)
- East Pershing Boulevard & McCann Avenue (near Baggs Elementary)
- Western Hills Boulevard & Moccasin Avenue (near McCormick Jr. High)
