While many of you across the city of Chicago were out celebrating the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson, we were in the trenches—preparing a space where esteemed dignitaries, business leaders, corporate and real estate influencers could gather in meaningful dialogue to pursue real solutions.
This work is about more than a conversation. It is about ensuring that affordable housing becomes accessible to all, and that education and resources for generational wealth creation are within reach for the communities that need them most.
We are committed to providing a place where our thought leaders can come together to mastermind, and confront the challenges that so many of our neighborhoods face. The builders of the great city of Chicago and Cook County as well as many other cities across our great nation, hold the keys to addressing the housing shortage crisis. But we cannot move forward while facing so many roadblocks: lengthy permit processing times, high interest rates on private money financing, the public perception that crime has not improved, the rise of squatters, and a judicial system with one of the longest foreclosure processes in the United States.
All of these factors make it difficult for Wall Street to offer lower interest rates. As a result, community development becomes more expensive and more risky—driving rental rates and the cost of home ownership higher for everyday households.
That is why I am proud to share that on March 11, 2026, at our Unlocking Private Capital & Property Opportunities , we will address these issues head-on. In a fireside-chat setting, community leaders who safeguard these resources will come together to discuss solutions. And for the first time in this room, new policies and programs will be announced by elected officials who have long fought for fair and equitable housing.
I want to thank Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle for their committment as our honored guest speakers for this groundbreaking event, being among the bravest leaders I know - willing to confront these challenges directly. We must continue to lift them up and support leaders who fight for everyday citizens, leaders who will stand up to corporations, banks, lending institutions, and Wall Street, and remind them why our communities deserve a seat at the table.
Coincidentally, this critical event will be held on the heavenly birthday of the late, great, and dearly beloved civil rights champion, Reverend Jesse Jackson. Taking action over taking selfies is exactly what he would have wanted on such a meaningful day.
The torch has officially been passed.
Now, let’s continue to fight the good fight. ✊🏾
