My middle baby is officially an Illini!!!
Erin Smith has made her decision and will be attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Biochemistry — and baby, overjoyed is not even a strong enough word. 🥹
Erin has always been my outspoken, witty, charismatic girl. The one who can light up a room, make you laugh with one sentence, and still stand ten toes down in who she is.
Science has been calling her name since her slime-making days lol. From mixing bowls, glue, glitter, and experiments at the kitchen table to now preparing to study Biochemistry — whew, look at God. 🙌🏽
Erin, I am so in awe of the young woman you are becoming. You are brilliant, bold, funny, determined, and so full of life. As a member of the National Honor Society and the Common Ground Foundation, you have shown what it looks like to lead with excellence, purpose, and heart.

This post comes straight from my heart, y’all… 💕
In February 2004, I was 20 years old, sitting in a college classroom, trying to hold it all together.
I was sick. I was scared. I was confused. And then I found out I was pregnant.
I didn’t finish that semester.
I dropped out.
I didn’t have a plan but I had a purpose. That purpose was Kyla Lee.
Fast forward to today… my baby is 21.
Not just grown but glowing, thriving, LEADING. ✨
She’s the Co-President of the Black Business Undergraduate Society at the University of Michigan, a sister, a powerhouse, a legacy in motion. 💼💙🐾
She’s walking through doors I once only dreamed of—and I get to say:
“That’s my daughter.”
Kyla, YOU are the reason I never gave up. You gave me the strength to keep building, keep rising, and keep believing. You’ve made every sacrifice worth it.
