The Kimball arts center is thrilled to welcome artists Diana Noh, Ren Buenviaje and Miguel LimĂłn to the building for our spring/summer session.

Through their personal cultural experiences, the artists in this session are responding to the built environment across varying landscapes and time. By documenting, recollecting and manipulating it through various photographic and sculptural modalities, they process themes of identity, place and relational constructions both internal and collective.

Come view their works exhibited in our first and second floor hallways of the building as well as the upcoming public workshops and events around their practice, free and open to the public!

More info on our May 29th Open House Event coming soon!

Have you been in to see the current AIR Exhibition in the hallways of our first and second floors? One of our current Artists in Residence is a self taught artist who blends surrealism and figurative expressionism, using bold color to capture emotions and mindsets at different stages of life. These are two pieces on view on the fist floor!

First frame: “Twilight in Bloom” is a reflection on seeing the world through a lens of child-like wonder, and the curiosity and openness we often lose as we grow older. It captures the quiet magic that of everyday moments, reminding us that beauty doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful.

The piece is set in the in-between space of twilight, and represents a shift in perspective where the ordinary begins to feel almost cinematic in a way, and small details become something to pause and appreciate.

Second Frame: A Note Never Sent explores the quiet weight of unspoken love, the kind that lives fully in the heart but never finds its way into words. It reflects the experience of caring deeply for someone, imagining all the things you wish you could say, yet choosing silence, whether out of fear, timing or the understanding that not everything is meant to be expressed.

The piece sits in that in-between space where emotion lingers without resolution.

One of our current Artists in Residence, Harlem West, has curated a show at that opens this Friday April 3rd! 7-11pm at 3429 W Diversey. See last slide for flier :)

First image is a work in exhibitions at the KAC by Harlem, titled: “Nsoromma (genogram)” - Cyanotype on fabric.

Go out and support some amazing local artists at their opening of ‘Too Tender Headed’ this Friday, and don’t forget to come by the Kimball Arts Center to see the current AIR exhibition in collaboration with featuring works by Harlem, and .club . Exhibition up until April 28th.

Statement by Harlem: ‘Too Tender Headed’ is a petition for reclaiming our divine sensitivities and memorializing tenderness. Here, we ask, how do we return to our heads?

In ode to the ‘two & tender-headed’, this installation asks us to recall what once moved us to submission, contrasting society’s contract for survival, that which demands our hearts hardening. Through sensory play, we carve space for the sacred, investigating when we began alchemizing our corporeal sentiments into indifference. Drawing inspiration from Lucille Clifton’s poetry collection, “Two-Headed Woman”, and Kush Thompson’s poem yea/ thou I walk through the valley of shower sex/l will fear no water, this gallery serves as a beacon shone through the most tender parts of ourselves.

See .m and for more info about the artists and vendors!

Introducing Harlem West, one of our Winter Artists in Residence for 2026 in collaboration with in exhibition February 9th through April on the first and second floors of the building.

Harlem Masimba West is a psalmist, griot and archival artist from Out South Chicago. Their practice is tethered to the portals that find black folks. Anchored in analog mediums, Harlem’s work is centered at the crossroads of the post colonial taboo and ancestral veneration. They weave storytelling into a tapestry of sonic play, tintype portraits, cyanotype displays, & double 8 short films as tools for transcending linear time. At their center, Harlem is an eldest sibling doing their best to honor the name they momma gave ‘em.

Come meet Harlem at our Opening Reception February 15th from 3-6pm at The Kimball Arts Center.
