It is also a time to recall and celebrate the triumph over the adversity and discrimination that sought to hold back the immovable, resilient movement of a community striving to secure a better future built on equality and justice for all.

The history of our country and the world outside its borders wouldn’t be the same without the contributions of Black American activists, scientists, educators, artists, politicians, writers, and beyond. Each year, calls our attention to a specific theme. According to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, 2024’s theme – African Americans and the Arts – explores the key influence African Americans have had in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary, and other forms of cultural expression.
