If you are using Zillow to search for properties, you may have noticed a major change in the number of properties listed in the Chicagoland area.
As of Wednesday, MRED, Chicagoland’s MLS Service, has suspended Zillow’s access to its listing data. This stems from Zillow’s refusal to list data for private listings.
Home sellers and their agents, not a tech company, should decide how their home is marketed, which includes private listings. What does this mean for you? As a buyer, you may not see every home available home on Zillow. Some listings could be missing or delayed. For sellers, exposure matters. The more eyes on your listing the better.
The reality is most sellers don’t gain anything by being on Zillow.com. 90% of homebuyers work with an agent, and agents access listings through the MLS and professional networks - not Zillow.com. 97% of real estate transactions don’t involve Zillow.com. Meanwhile, your home still receives exposure to tens of millions of consumers on major real estate portals like Redfin.com, Realtor.com, and Homes.com, our brokerage website along with all other brokerage websites, and targeted digital marketing channels.
Your home is not a commodity – it’s a unique asset and deserves to be treated as such. I will continue to market your home the way that I know works, and I’m completely confident in my ability to secure the best results for you. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
