Every mortgage payment can help you build equity instead of only paying rent. As you pay down your loan and if your home increases in value your ownership stake can grow over time.

That equity can eventually give you options. You may be able to use it toward your next home, keep the property as an investment, or simply have an asset that contributes to your long-term financial picture.
