A table to gather around, a cozy family room to relax in and a comfortable bed to get a good nights sleep…seems simple, right? These are things believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience. Yesterday I had the pleasure of working along side my girlfriends to outfit a home for a family of five exiting homelessness.

In less than 5 hours we transformed an empty apartment into a HOME. And while something is better than nothing, we repair furniture that needs love, we work with the entire family to find out what colors they like, what activities they enjoy doing, etc. We want it to feel like it’s theirs! While the little ones find new books and toys, the teenagers see they have a bed all to themselves and a desk to study at, mom and dad see a new home full of possibilities and new opportunities. I can’t describe the feeling when we reveal the home to the family and see the look on their faces. We see a mix of pure joy, feeling slightly overwhelmed and they are grateful beyond belief.

The jarring statistics will make you see firsthand what an amazing organization Humble Design is. Roughly 50% of families return to homelessness within a year of securing housing. BUT, with Humble Design’s help only about 1% of their families return to homelessness. That is 🌟AMAZING🌟. I’m so proud to be a part of their movement. Happy Birthday to our girls, Koko & Maggie. The sweetest weirdos EVER. Peanut butter loving, tv watchers, under sofa sleepers. They are the funniest sisters and life wouldn’t be the same without them. 💜

Never in a million years did I think I’d be saying goodbye to my best friend from college today. We literally clung to each other when we met during sorority rush. Two ordinary girls from Illinois trying to find our way at a VERY southern school with very few out of state kids. We were both fish out of water. She was my lifeline. She was my people. Elizabeth was so full of life you would get shocked when you touched her. She made me come out of my self conscious ‘I don’t fit in here’ shell, she was the first and last one on the dance floor, and was the best partner in college crime I’ll ever know. Also, I knew I loved her when I found out she could drive a stick. She loved me for sharing my car with her.

That spunky, raspy voice with the best laugh. I will forever cherish the voicemail I have after Rafe was born. While I’m happy we didn’t have social media in the late 90s, I’m sad I don’t have videos of all of our shenanigans. I have boxes of photos…spring breaks, game days in Athens [unlike anything you’ve seen], getting ready to go out in our FIVE GIRL room in the DZ house. She had more hair than anyone could imagine and I was always tasked with blowing it out and trying to tame it. I called her my little lion. It was WILD. Literally, WILD. And I fu***ng loved her and her hair and her energy.

03.29.84 [😳] If you know him, you love him. His favorite role in life is being a Daddy, close second is being my husband 😂. He’s the funniest one in the room, he’s the best listener, first one to act silly to make you laugh, and always the first one to bed. He literally will put his family and close tribe above ANYTHING else, and I mean anything. Rafe Benjamin Conklin is the *luckiest* kid I know. The two of them are thick as thieves and I’m a better person just being in his company. He annoys the buh-jesus out of me, but then I look at him while he’s sleeping and remember all the reasons why I love him 😜. He brings me coffee if he’s up first, he lets my habit of leaving doors and cabinets open go unnoticed. He’s not a saint, but pretty dang close. And he’s so damn handsome and smells good.

Wishing you the very best birthday before you hit 40 next year. I love you, I love you, I love you. HBD🤍

There are trips and then there are VACATIONS. I’m talking a vacation where you go from breakfast in pajamas to bathing suit, nap mid-day outside on the veranda and then eat dinner by the ocean in your coverup. While I appreciate [with a smidge of envy] seeing photos of friends all dolled up to go to dinner while on vacation, that’s just not how we do it 😜. We lounge, laugh, snack, cocktail and play Trivial Pursuit HARD. Our crew can’t squeeze into a resort - luckily Jamaica has spectacular private homes to rent. Take a look…

When I think of Kansas City, I think of really good BBQ, Super Bowl Champs, The Plaza…and my best friend, Caroline Harris. Real estate brought us together in 2009 working on the same top ranked team in Chicago. We bonded over everything from shoveling snow at a new listing to an early morning Barre class before the day’s shenanigans started. She is the “Jackie of all trades”, she’s an entrepreneur, she’s a certified life coach, and she loves health & wellness like I do. The best news of 2023 is she is back in real estate, licensed in both Kansas and Missouri!! If you are thinking about a move to Kansas City, you need to think of Caroline first.
