This week we celebrated my Mom’s (a.k.a. Gigi) 83rd Birthday in style, top down, wind in her hair, cruising through the North Shore & Chicago in a 1962 Cadillac Convertible, because subtlety was never really her style!
The Gigi we know now (or knew in her prime):
🩷Always had a plan and it was guaranteed to be a fun one and often an adventure! She was always full of energy. We definitely won the lottery.
🧡As my Dad would always say, she was totally in charge, always up for a good time, always laughing and impossible to pin down for a first date.
🩷Friends know her as the people connector. Her grandchildren would say she knew everyone on the North Shore, some others called her the Mayor as she drove around Winnetka & Wilmette in her Saab convertible.
🧡She’s spent her whole life putting everyone else first. She’ll do a hundred kind things for you and never once bring it up, never look for a thank you, just quietly show up the moment you need her. All of her children, in-laws and grandchildren can share a story after story of her showing up for them over the years.
🩷We grew up watching her run circles around all of us, always making sure everyone else was taken care of before she ever thought of herself. She taught us to look out for people, to value our friendships and community, and to know how to have a genuinely great time while doing it.
🧡Our girls talk about how funny she is and always laughing. That smile of hers is contagious, and she’ll find something funny in absolutely everything. She’s competitive to her core (back on the tennis courts in her prime), and there is no bigger superfan than her (whether a sporting event, play or school activity). She’s hosted more pool parties, cooked more meals for friends and family, and said yes to more adventures than anyone we know.
🩷Whether it’s “Simmer down!” from across the room or “Get over here!” when she needs help, when Mom had a plan, we listened — because she’s usually had somewhere fun for us to be next.
🧡Eighty-three years young, and still with the brighest smile.
