How will tariffs affect the real estate market? The short answer is that the cost of building/remodeling/fixing up homes will become more expensive. Due to the tariffs, the Federal Reserve also does not plan to lower rates any time soon. So you will be paying more money to purchase and maintain your home. Housing inventory is also expecting to decrease meaning that the price of buying a home is expected to increase. Together with higher rates and higher costs (including the increase in general cost of living), this could significantly reduce housing affordability and worsen the current affordable housing crisis.
