Imagine ‘Capping the Ike or the Ryan’? 🤔

In an open call to Chicagoans for ‘transformative projects’ that will change our city, this very idea proposed by the Metropolitan Planning Council was one of the selected finalists. The project, “Repairing the Scars of the Interstate Highway Era: Capping Highways and Reuniting Chicago’s South and West Sides”, calls for a network of large ‘highway caps’ over the Dan Ryan and Eisenhower expressways, providing swaths of connective greenspaces as well as new rail stations.

This sounds like a fabulous idea to us! (...if Chicago can afford it 🙄💰....) What are your thoughts?

You might hear ‘spring cleaning’ and think - dusting, deep cleaning the bathroom, putting the clothes pile on that bedroom chair away, etc. - but this year we are thinking about something a little different.

We all have areas of our home that stay pretty picked up and tidy, and then there are areas that always seem annoyingly messy and in disarray, and even after a good ‘spring clean’ you blink and it’s messy again.

What’s usually missing is a SYSTEM... a routine, some good old fashioned ‘house rules’ for keeping a space looking it’s best.

Here are some ideas as you tackle whatever space in your home needs to be a little more optimized, so your home is actually supporting you, and not causing you more stress:

✨ everything has a home. If it lives in that room, it has to have a home, it has to have somewhere to go.

✨ don’t put it down, put it away. Once you get yourself into this habit, it will literally feel uncomfortable to not put things away.

✨ people usually know why their space is messy, so take some time and develop a system for yourself based on what you know ISN’T working. Buy the organizer, schedule a few minutes each day for putting clothes away, make the system fun for yourself. Maybe you play music and it’s a solo dance party, maybe you listen to a great podcast, have fun with it, it will make it stick!

Please don’t leave me hanging - share what really works... and what *doesn’t* work - in your home! I’m dying to know!

🥇Green City Market in Lincoln Park wins our vote for our favorite Farmer’s Market in the city. This is also one of the largest farmers markets in the city.
🥳 Fun Fact - you’re most likely to see a famous chef at this one and maybe even watch a demo!
🗓️ Wednesdays & Saturdays 7am to 1pm, April thru November.

🥈 Logan Square Farmer’s Market is another hit. This market prides itself on being entirely producer-only, meaning you buy directly from the source.
🥳 Fun Fact - this market is one of the few that functions year round and every week. The market moves indoors in October when the weather cools down.
🗓️ Sundays 9 am to 3 pm

🌇 If you’re back in the office, Chicago City Market in Daley Plaza is a great one to pop over too while you’re downtown. We love the feeling of being surrounded by such big shouldered buildings while knowing that the produce and flowers are fresh & local.
🥳 Fun Fact - this is one of the city’s original and longest-running markets.

🌳 Low Line Market in Southport Corridor wins our vote if you’re looking for a smaller, more intimate experience.
