Lifetime Fitness announced a new mega-gym they're building in Naperville. I subsequently saw someone post that this will drive property values up in the immediate surrounding area.
In the heyday of Chicago real estate development, back in the early aughts, developers wanted to be anywhere a Starbucks was going in. They figured if Starbucks was betting on an area, it was bound to be desirable for buyers. At that time, in that context, I think it was somewhat true.
I grew up in Bloomingdale, home of one of the first Lifetimes in Illinois in the late 90s. I can assure you it did squat for property values, but it sure was nice in there.
When I look at Naperville, it seems like a pretty well developed, highly amenitized area. On top of that, so many planned communiites around Route 59 have built-in amenities already.
So I'm going to go ahead and call out whoever said this LTF installation would blow up property values is ridiculous. I'm sure it will be a popular place, but it will have 0 impact on the incredibly strong property values in that area.
Fun thought for the day! Careful what you buy into on here...
