A midcentury masterpiece passes the torch — again...

The Ajioka House has seen its share of Hollywood names. Designed in 1960 by Buff & Hensman, the Nichols Canyon estate was built for Dr. Richard Ajioka before Jerry Bruckheimer made it his own. Now, after decades of A-list stewardship, it's listed for $10 million.

What makes this property rare isn't just the pedigree — it's what happened next. When the home needed restoration, Commune Design took on a meticulous two-year project that was so thoughtfully executed it earned the firm a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. That's the kind of attention to detail that separates a renovation from a resurrection.

Four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, and 4,200 square feet spread across a four-structure compound. The canyon views alone justify the architecture — sweeping, uninterrupted, the kind of backdrop that makes you understand why people have built their lives here. A home like this doesn't just hold memories; it holds standards. The question is whether the next owner will honor what came before, or write an entirely new chapter.

A Point Dume estate previously owned by Gail Zappa, the widow of rock icon Frank Zappa, has hit the market for $28.5 million with some of her unique design touches still intact. Gail purchased the Malibu property in 1997, four years after Frank’s death, for $2.4 million and spent the following years designing the home with pieces collected during her travels. In 2003, she sold it to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial screenwriter and Harrison Ford’s ex-wife, Melissa Mathison, for $5.8 million. More recently, the estate underwent a two-year remodel in collaboration with HGTV designer Leanne Ford, preserving elements from the Zappa era, including a serpent mosaic based on a design by Frank, while adding new features such as a pool, spa, and lily pond. One of La Jolla’s most culturally significant homes, once owned by Theodor Geisel, better known to the world as Dr. Seuss, has sold for $9 million. Set high above the Pacific on 1.51 acres, Geisel lived and worked in this very home from the time he relocated from Massachusetts to Southern California in 1948 until his death in 1991, writing much of his iconic body of work within these walls. Geisel and his first wife, Helen, initially purchased a Spanish Revival observation tower on the site and built the home around it, commissioning architect Thomas L. Shepherd to design the residence in 1950. The four bedroom, four bath, 5,004 square foot home offers sweeping views overlooking La Jolla Cove, preserving a rare piece of literary and architectural history above the coastline. Mark Wahlberg has officially joined South Florida’s “Billionaires Row.” The actor and producer recently bought Palazzo di Lago, a $37 million Italian-inspired estate in Delray Beach’s exclusive Stone Creek Ranch community. Wahlberg and his wife, Rhea Durham, purchased the 17,797-square-foot lakefront home fully furnished, settling in just in time for the Palm Beach social season. The residence sits among neighbors like hedge fund titan and New York Mets owner Steven Cohen. The 7-bedroom, 12-bath property features 30-foot ceilings, a 170,000-gallon saltwater lagoon pool, a full wellness wing with a gym, a car gallery, a home theater, a hidden cigar lounge, and two executive offices. Rounding out the estate are a private tennis court, a cabana with a kitchen and bar, and a fully equipped guest house. More photos in comments.

Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Chelios has relisted his Malibu beachfront compound for $60 million, offering one of the rarest opportunities in Paradise Cove—direct ownership of a home that sits right on the sand. Chelios and his wife purchased the property in 2003 for $6 million and spent years transforming it into one of Malibu’s most private coastal hideaways. The couple first attempted to sell the estate in 2023 for $75 million, but the ambitious price tag drew little interest. Now, the home returns to the market at a more measured ask, giving buyers a second chance at a truly uncommon slice of Malibu beachfront. With nearly 90 feet of frontage, the property stands apart from the bluff top homes that dominate the area, offering an intimate connection to the shoreline that only a handful of Paradise Cove estates can claim. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Beach Boys founding member Mike Love is looking to sell his longtime Lake Tahoe estate for $43 million. Love has owned the extraordinary mountain retreat for more than four decades, using it not only as a private residence but also as a place to write and record music. Perched above Lake Tahoe’s eastern shoreline (on the Nevada side), the estate is surrounded by protected conservation land, helping preserve the panoramic lake and Sierra Nevada views that have long shaped its appeal. Set on 2.5 acres, the property spans 18,922 square feet with 10 bedrooms and 13.5 bathrooms, making it one of the more substantial private estates on the lake. More photos in comments.

Rock legend Dave Grohl owns this $6 million home in Encino, California, where he has lived while continuing his career with the Foo Fighters. Initially known as the drummer for Nirvana, Grohl helped define the grunge era before the band's breakup following the death of Kurt Cobain. He later founded the Foo Fighters, turning the project into one of the biggest rock bands of the past three decades.

Beyond Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, Grohl has performed with Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, and Cage the Elephant. A two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, once with Nirvana and again with the Foo Fighters, he has also won numerous Grammy Awards and is famously self-taught, playing entirely by ear without ever learning to read music.

Despite an estimated net worth of around $280 million, Grohl has long been known for his relatively modest lifestyle. He has often said he prefers saving his earnings over chasing business ventures, choosing instead to focus on family and music. Offstage, he's equally well known for his philanthropy, and love of coffee.

This is one of three residences Grohl owns in the greater Los Angeles area.
