Introducing the final founding member, Meganna! Meganna (She/Her) moved to Chicago in 2018 to pursue a Master's in Vocal Performance. She has lived all over Chicago in those 7 years but knew she wanted to end up in Rogers Park. She currently works as a choir director at Saint Patrick High School and as a private voice teacher at Northside Music Academy. She finds joy in seeing her students have their “aha!” moment and is shifting her focus from performance to teaching full-time. Working in the education system, she knows the importance of equity both in the classroom and in society. She believes housing to be a human right, not a privilege. She is very excited to be part of this project to bring affordable housing to Rogers Park, even if it is just one building. Outside of work, she is an avid crocheter, lover of video games, and proud cat mom. The two additional tenants of her apartment are Noctis, a 6-year-old black cat who’s built like a tank, and Alisaie, a 1-year-old tabby reaper of chaos.

Introducing another founding member, Shobhana! Shobhana Panuganti, Ph.D. (she/her), is an ecofeminist chemist, brewer, and community organizer. She moved to Chicago in 2018 but came to Rogers Park in 2021 after living elsewhere in the city. For a first-generation South Indian American, there is no place that feels more like home for her than the open friendliness and unabashed celebration of culture that is Rogers Park. Shobhana is a worker-owner at Ekaloka Fermentory with her partner, where she concocts vegan, local brews and foods for a better world. Establishing affordable, democratic housing is what she hopes to be her small contribution to the overall peace and happiness of the neighborhood. She is a lover of science fiction, a hiker of tall mountains, and a companion to two cats.

Meet another founding member, Ben! Ben Oxley, Ph.D., first moved to Rogers Park in 2019 for graduate school at Northwestern. Ever since, he’s fallen in love with the relaxed, multicultural hodgepodge of RP. Ben has a long history in community work, working in the Northwestern University Graduate Workers (NUGW) unionization campaign since 2021, culminating in a position on the bargaining committee for a historic first contract in 2024. Now, Ben is a co-founder of Ekaloka Fermentory, a worker-owner brewery operating out of Howard St. Ekaloka’s mission is to create unique fermented products that teach people about the world around them while building community between them. Outside of all that, Ben loves a warm day in his garden with his cats, Kimchi and Gongura, planning Flavortown-themed D&D campaigns, and a cold beer.
