There’s not many things that are more fun than spending an afternoon looking at homes when you’ve made the decision it’s time to buy. But you know what’s NOT fun? When you find the house of your dreams and want to make an offer, but you can’t because you didn’t get pre-approved before you went out looking! In order to avoid that from happening, it’s important to get pre-approved BEFORE you start looking so you’ll be ready to go as soon as you find the perfect one for you and your family. If you’re considering looking for a new home this year, here are 5 things to gather up for your lender:
1.) Any identification cards you may have (Driver’s license, passport, social security card.)
2.) 2/3 months worth of recent paystubs. (If you didn’t keep them you can contact your Human Resources Dept for copies)
3.) Your most recent bank statements and any investment statements as well.
4.) A list of all your current debts. (Rent, Mortgage, credit cards, loans, etc.)
5.) A recent credit report if you have one. If you don’t…DO NOT get one. Have your lender run your credit so they have the most updated numbers.
Depending on the state you live in, your lender will let you know if there are any other forms you need, but these will be enough to get any lender started. A pre-approval will allow you to search for homes in your price range with confidence! That way, when you find the “perfect home” you can work with your realtor to get an offer in right away!
