We’re starting to think the dogs are the ones booking the vacations. 🐾

A little sleepy morning sun—with the Cottage and one of our swings in the background.

And, unexpectedly, a little good news for anyone still hoping for a late-summer getaway.

A Labor Day cancellation has opened the Waterfront Wonder Cottage, which was so popular this summer that there was very little space left. We also had a disappointed family cancel their Labor Day stay at the larger Chesapeake Paradise House, and a few August openings have appeared as well.

So perhaps the getaway you thought you had missed is still waiting for you.

Last weekend, a large power outage affected our area. The guests staying in the upstairs Flat and Solarium were having such a good time that—even without electricity—they asked to extend another night.

Outages are rare here, and thankfully I installed a generator last year. Our arriving guests decided to come anyway, even knowing the air conditioning might not be available. My team and I helped get everything set up so they could settle in comfortably—and about an hour later, the power came back on.

That story felt very Chesapeake Paradise to me.

Things do not always unfold exactly as expected. But my team and I are known for finding ways to make things work, because we genuinely want our guests to feel cared for and have what they need whenever we can provide it.

So let’s see whether we can get you out here for late summer—or help you plan something for fall. The water, sky, and quiet have something different to offer in every season.

And it is also a good time to think ahead. We often welcome longer stays of one to six months during late fall, winter, and early spring, sometimes with meaningful monthly discounts.

Winter may be our most sparkly season, with the low sun scattering light across the water. Guests have come here to finish major writing projects, welcome new babies, move through life transitions, or simply live closer to nature and restore themselves for a while.

Maybe this is the season—or the longer chapter—you have been needing.

Some of the best Chesapeake Paradise days are the ones nobody plans too carefully.

Someone takes out the canoe.
Someone else grabs a fishing rod.
The kids want to float.
And the person who said they were only going to watch eventually ends up near the water too.

Guests can use our kayaks and canoe, bring their own stand-up paddleboards, swim, float on the rafts, fish or crab from the pier—or simply sit back and watch the light move across the Chesapeake.

It works especially well for families and groups because everyone can enjoy the waterfront in their own way, while still spending the day together.

We do still have a few openings at Chesapeake Paradise House and CP Lite in August, along with Waterfront Wonder Cottage availability around Labor Day and more openings in September.

Hi, I’m Shawn—the owner and longtime caretaker of Chesapeake Paradise.

This place has grown slowly, thoughtfully, and one space at a time.

It began in 2009 with the upstairs Flat, which I renovated as a private waterfront apartment where people could retreat, settle down, and simply breathe. That one special stay later became known as Maryland’s most wished-for Airbnb by Travel + Leisure magazine.

As more guests came—and more families wanted to gather here—I began transforming the rest of the property. The whole house, once known as Light Landing, was completely transformed into Chesapeake Paradise—expanded, modernized, and reimagined around the water,

More recently, the little cottage next door received a beautiful new open-concept kitchen, along with a bay-window upgrade in the waterfront bedroom that created a cozy place to sit, read, and take in the view—all while keeping the quaint, cottage-like character that makes it feel so welcoming.

That blend of old and new is part of what makes Chesapeake Paradise feel the way it does. Some spaces are fresh and modern. Others are cozy, familiar, and full of history. All have been shaped with care.

I’ve always believed this place offers more than a beautiful view or somewhere comfortable to sleep. There is something about the water, the wide-open sky, and the quiet here that helps people soften a little. Families reconnect. People open up and breathe deeper without even realizing it.

Creating that kind of experience—and continuing to tend it with care—is one of the great joys of my life.

I swear, sometimes this dock does half the work for you.

You walk out with your head full of whatever the day has been carrying, and by the time you get to the end, the water has somehow taken the volume down.

Nothing dramatic.

Just blue sky, quiet water, old dock boards, and enough space to remember you don’t have to rush the next breath.

Maybe it’s just having a few quiet minutes where nobody needs anything from you.

Whatever it is, we’ll take it.
